U-prep Creates a "Home" Quilt

The Pittsburgh Center for the Arts speaks to the city through it many art projects and programs that allow for local talent to work in the Pittsburgh Public Schools, City parks, and other educational institutions, who utilize their teaching artist program. I have been fortunate enough this fall and winter to be placed at U-prep (formerly Margret Milliones) Middle School where students are creating a fiber project which will one day hang at a community institution in their neighborhood. Meanwhile the students learn about  their communities historic places, the joys of quietude, pre-planning and a life skill that could one day save a pair of pants :-) 

The quilt will be featured at the Geek Art Green Innovator's festival on April 5th from 6 pm to 9 pm with guests Knit the Bridge @ ARTica Gallery 5110 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh PA 15224. 
 

Nat Love Quilt at the Senator John Heinz History Museum, a Smithsonian Affilate, also won best of show at a Kingsley Center art exhibition, and was the subject of a black history article in the Post Gazette.

My Adam and Eve have been in several shows. Most recently: Common Ground at the August Wilson Center. Show closed March 17.

Hundreds of artists and photographers submitted photos for one spcecial global day 10-10-10. My rose, photograh taken during a stroll through the Penn Ave Arts District, was one of the featured images.

My Festive Life

I never thought I'd do a festival again! After five years with East Liberty Alive (which later became E-fest) and 20+ years of promotions between Kaufmann's, KQV, WDVE, KDKA, ELPC, ELDI, EDGE and others, I thought I'd settle down on the bench of grateful obscurity. I wasn't really looking for any more big projects. But it wasn't to be. I made one serendipitous error: I shot off my mouth at a  meeting, which is usually how you get a "job" you didn't ask for. And as we all know, once the call is made, when the people are great and cause is good, and when the potential coolness looks just too good to pass up--you will find yourself wanting to join the fray all over again. Never mind that you don't make a decent wage, or get a good night sleep, or even (some days) remember your name. It's all for one thing--The Arts! I've dedicated my life to it, and I've been blessed to work with people who have that same dedication. And we're making the magic happen again.
